I will be the first to confess that I don’t stick to the budget (EVER), and it is no fun. I am working towards this, and these are the few tips that have helped me. If you always buy the latest and newest thing, then this blog post is for you.
Financial planning. I understand this has nothing to do with fashion; however, it has to do with money, and you need money to shop. You need money to shop and buy new things. I will also like to confess here that I have had a very unhealthy relationship with money. I understand there’s some science as to why most women fall into this category as I do; however, I will address that topic for some other day. If you continue to go over your budget, I think it’s time to consider a financial advisory. It would help if you considered someone who is more professional at this, and they will set up a system that you can follow. This system will keep you on budget. A system that helps you shop and still save money. It is not easy, I must say, but I recently hired a financial advisor, and it was eye-opening for me to see how bad things were with me, but also it is good because now I am working on it.
Up next is to consider sales. A few weeks ago, I missed the 30% discount code a brand had before I hit pay because I was in such a rush and ended up paying full price. I was upset with myself the entire day. I am now the lady who looks at all the discount codes the brand has before hitting pay. Having a financial advisory has opened my eyes to different ways to cut costs and still buy the things I love.
Another way to shop this holiday season is to consider thrifting. I know you have heard this before that thrifting saves you money, and I am here to reinforce that logic. While thrifting, I have purchased some of my favorite blazers and coats for 80-90% less than the original price of the items. You can also thrift named brands from places like the Real Real, Fashionphile etc. These are places that sale second hand designer brands pieces. If you’re into designer brands, and want to gift someone this holiday season, consider shopping from there. You will be paying less for the original piece and good quality items.
Use discount code search engines such as Honey and Rakuten to get more discounts when shopping. I will take the additional discounts if I can save $5 more after applying the 30% off the brand offered. You can never go wrong with getting that extra discount.
Don’t follow the trend but rather get the basics. When I say this, I mean don’t always go after the recent fashion pieces or the fast fashion pieces. Most of these items are not going to be around next season. Why not buy yourself pieces that you can reuse over and over. Pieces like blazers or button-down shirts. These are pieces that are essential to your closet.
I hope this post helps you with your holiday shopping and, in general, and in the future. I have learned that learning a new habit is super fun, especially a habit that you can truly be proud of. I am very proud to be building a healthy relationship with my finances.
That is it for today, queens, see you next time.
Xoxo, Mo!
