BEGINNER FRIENDLY SKINCARE PRODUCTS

Skincare is often thought of as complicated or confusing by most. Maintaining healthy skin Is very important because radiant skin is the foundation for a flawless makeup look. Another big misconception is that skincare products need to be expensive, well that’s a big no and that’s why l decided to write this blog on affordable drug store skincare finds.

This blog is going to have some simple easy-to-follow tips and some affordable drugstore skin care product finds.

WHAT TYPE OF SKIN DO I HAVE?

You need to understand your skin type before buying any product. There is dry, oily, combination, and sensitive skin. Knowing the type of skin you have will help you decide which type of cleanser, moisturizer etc to buy and also get the most out of your products too.

WHAT TYPES OF CLEANSERS BEST FOR COMBINATION SKIN?

Let us talk about cleansing. Typically, it’s recommended to cleanse twice a day, that is morning and night and the type and formula you cleanse with depends on how dirty your skin is. If you have had a full day of makeup, then double cleansing would be most effective and also incorporating oil-based cleansers for the most effect. If you have specific problems like acne, then you can look into acne-based cleansers. Try not to over-cleanse as this may lead to dryness and irritation.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO EXFOLIATE YOUR FACE?

Have you ever felt like your skin is clogged or full of dead skin? If yes, then that’s a call for exfoliating your skin. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells for a brighter complexion. If you are new to exfoliants l would recommend doing this only once a week and building up to three times gradually. Another thing you need to know is that there are physical ad chemical exfoliants. I personally love both but l strongly advice introducing one type at a time and starting 1 time a week and increasing slowly as you see how your skin is adjusting.

WHAT SERUMS SHOULD I USE DAILY?

Now that your skin feels clean and fresh, it’s time to introduce serums. Serums are concentrated treatments targeting specific concerns. These treatments can be hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and niacinamide. I personally apply my serums before moisturizer for better absorption then lock in the moisture after.

WHAT IS THE BEST FACE MOISTURIZER?

Maintaining the skin’s hydration balance is very important, especially after cleansing and adding serums. They are different types of moisturizers ie creams. Lotions and gels. The best type is determined by your skin type and season too. During summer you tend to want lighter moisturizers ie gel form and in winter we need to lock in moisture with heavier forms like cream.

BEST UNDER EYE CREAMS THAT ACTUALLY WORKS.

It’s never too late to introduce eye creams. The skin around the eye is very sensitive and it quickly shows signs of aging. If you also deal with a lot of dark circles or fine lines, then you should consider incorporating eye creams.

BEST SUNSCREEN THAT ACTUALLY WORKS.

If you don’t take anything else, please get sunscreen. It doesn’t matter how much you invest in your skin but do not use sunscreen then you might be wasting your time, UV rays are very damaging to your skin and may increase the signs of aging. Suns creams range from SPF 30 to 50+ and it Is recommended that you reapply every 2 hours when outdoors.

In conclusion, consistency is key. Doing this for a few days does not help much, however sticking to a specific regimen for a longer time is recommended and crucial for achieving the best results. Also, learn to listen to your skin when starting this new journey. Your skin will let you know if it likes the products or not. I also recommend using patch tests on new products to test for any reactions.

Another piece of advice would be to start with a few products. Don’t overwhelm your skin with a lot of products at the same time.
